༄༅། །དཀར་མོ་ཟླ་མདངས་ཀྱི་སྒྲོལ་མ་།།
ཕྱག་འཚལ་སྟོན་ཀའི་ཟླ་བ་ཀུན་ཏུ།
།གང་བ་བརྒྱ་ནི་བརྩེགས་པའི་ཞལ་མ། །
སྐར་མ་སྟོང་ཕྲག་ཚོགས་པ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས།
།རབ་ཏུ་ཕྱེ་བའི་འོད་རབ་འབར་མ། །Homage to Tara, white as the autumn moon,
Nghi quỹ tu trì Lục Độ Phật Mẫu, Drukpa lineage
whose face is like a hundred full moons of autumn
gathered together into one,
blazing with the brilliant light
of a thousand stars
assembled.
Tara “white as the full autumn moon” takes her name from the moonstone (Skt. chandrakanta) — the gem that stands for the moon (chandra) in its role as one of the nine principal planets (navagraha). She is commonly shown standing erect in the samapada posture, or seated in the vajra posture upon a white moon disc and a pink lotus.
She appears peaceful and white in colour, with three faces and twelve arms. Her central face is white, her right face blue, and her left face golden yellow. The three faces represent the three bodies (kaya) of a buddha, and the twelve arms stand for the twelve links of dependent origination.
Her first pair of hands forms the meditation gesture (dhyana mudra) at the level of her hips. Her second pair holds a flower garland and a scripture. Her third pair raises a dharma wheel and a golden treasure vase. Her fourth pair holds a blazing jewel and a bell. Her fifth pair holds a golden dharma wheel and a blue utpala lotus. Her sixth pair holds a khatvanga staff and a golden flask of consecrated water. She is adorned with divine silk garments and jewel ornaments, and crowned by the red buddha Amitabha. Her power is to pacify contagious diseases, nightmares and untimely death.
